Helping bereaved young people get back on their feet

Our Vision

Our vision

Slide Away’s vision is for every child in Kent to have access to bereavement support which acknowledges their grief and experience of loss following the death of a relative or friend. Slide Away offers support to children and young people in Kent who have been bereaved of a family member or friend and those who have a parent or sibling with a life limiting illness.

Our history

In September 2001, our founder, Denise Ross’ precious son Daniel was killed in a road accident. Denise’s training as an Educational Psychologist had provided her with the theory, but nothing in her life had prepared her for the pain of grief.

Although facts, figures and statistics all provide evidence for the need to support bereaved children, Slide Away was not founded on the basis of research and statistics, but from the very personal experience of Denise’s family.

Testimonials

  • Slide Away, to us, has been very supportive, caring and honest.

  • The compassion shown by Slide Away made the whole experience easier to cope with in a very dark and challenging time.

  • The staff that work for Slide Away are amazing and really do understand what young people and families are going through when facing the loss of a loved one.

  • Slide Away really does shine a light of hope for so many young people.

  • My son enjoyed the memory day and made some things that we will treasure forever.

  • Slide Away helped our child to meet other children who have experienced something similar. Until now she didn’t know another child that she could relate to or other children that could relate to her.

  • My child absolutely loved his time with Slide Away. It really helped him and I have noticed a real difference in him.

  • Thank you for all your support so far. It’s a wonderful service and we’re very grateful to you and your team.

  • We were amazed by the level of compassion and kindness shown to us by all the staff - it was truly breathtaking.

  • Before attending Slide Away he didn’t talk about his Dad at all and he wouldn’t share anything about his Dad. A couple of weeks after the session he really started to open up and he has even made a shelf now where people can see things of his Dad’s.
