Supporting bereaved children and young people at school during the Coronavirus outbreak.
School, with its familiar routines, caring staff, friendships and fun provide a ‘safe haven’ for children especially when there are changes in their lives following a bereavement or they are living with a family member with a life-limiting illness.
Covid-19 has meant that many aspects of children's lives have changed. The ‘safe haven’ of school has been closed to many children. At Slide Away we believe that school communities are well placed to support children bereaved during the pandemic as they return to school.
To assist you, below are some links to information on which we hope you may find helpful.

Slide Away Booklist
– our booklist contains a plethora of books for different ages of bereaved children, for anticipated grief, and for adults supporting bereaved children.
Our referrals list remains open. Slide Away has now resumed workshops
, with social distancing and other measures in place, giving priority to those children who need help the most. Since resuming our face-to-face services two weeks ago, we have already been able to support 12 bereaved children at workshops and we aim to offer support this academic year to most, and hopefully all, children who are already on our referrals list.
support will resume face-to-face in April. Our memory days
will resume later in the academic year.
We are in the process of contacting families to offer children workshop spaces as soon as we can, however, we continue to be available by phone or email Denise Ross firstname.lastname@example.org
or 07970597715 if you have any queries.
Thank you for your continued support of Slide Away.
