Slide Away will benefit from Sutton Valence Choral Society's concerts throughout 2020. Their Spring concert will be held in All Saints Church Maidstone at 7 pm on Sunday 29 March with two greats from the past and one modern composer.
With the Beresford Sinfonia the Society will fill All Saints Church with the sound of Schubert's Mass in G Major. Then to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth, the Society will tackle Beethoven's C Major Mass, a fine exhilarating composition, unfortunately often eclipsed by his mightier Missa Solemnis. The icing on the cake in this programme is the inclusion of Cecilia McDowall's Ave Maris Stella. McDowall is renowned for her choral writing and this work abounds in word painting as the text is brought to life by the music that carries it. She may well be able to attend this performance. The Society's soloist, Alexandra Stevenson, was the soloist at the work's premiere on Armistice Day 2001 in St Thomas's Catherdral in Portsmouth.
