Slide Away is pleased to announce it has been selected as a finalist for the Kent Charity Awards 2022, in the Children's category.
As a small charity, we are delighted to be a finalist and we are proud of this acknowledgement of the vital work that Slide Away does and that our whole team contributes to.
The process has been very thorough and required us to submit an application of 2000 words, which took us through a process of elimination to the stage where we were interviewed by a judging panel.
We provided the judges with the history and background to Slide Away’s work and the impact it has on the children, young people, families and schools we support. We were also able to share with them that:
One of our achievements this year is the recognition by the British Psychological Society of our modular training programme “Children’s Grief.”
The greatest challenge we have faced this year is the increase in referrals for bereaved children and those living with a family member who has a terminal illness, with the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdows impacting on children’s levels of anxiety and mental health.
During lockdowns we addressed these challenges by offering virtual support and since lockdowns we have provided additional individual support, extra workshops and memory days.
We have a number of special projects lined up for next year and we are very excited about the publication of Slide Away’s first children’s book The Snowdrop Tree.
We work collaboratively with schools and value the contribution made by our School Bereavement Contacts.
Slide Away is one of four finalists in the Children’s Charity of the Year Category. The winners of the Kent Charity Awards will be announced at a Gala Evening to be held at the Medway Campus of the University of Greenwich on Thursday 8 September
